Wow. What a moving piece. Thanks for sharing your story and your insights. Sobering — yet absolutely needing to be heard. My daughter is now 25 and we went through similar things when she was younger, but NOT to this degree. Having an adult that complements the parent — not quite a ‘God parent’ but something similar — is a critical part of the support kids need? Educating ourselves on things like “adverse childhood experiences” (or ACEs) and how kids like Dylan Klebold were likely subjected to a number of seemingly ‘innocuous’ events in their life that added up to the ‘straw that broke the camel’s back’ (something called “allostatic load”). Your writing echos and boosts my own mental and physical resiliency focus so for that I thank you! Keep up the great work and let me know if you’d ever like to join forces…
