Nice article, Markham!

Echos my own that details a bit of the different parts that often fight, but can be used to ENABLE, weight loss…and ultimate health: https://medium.com/@gjkeil2_82005/so-many-resolutions-dead-already-shocker-not-at-all-845836befccb . Hopefully everyone will realize that health isn’t just possible, it is a natural part of life, as is disease unfortunately. A key is that the body (and mind) are agnostic to what we ask them to do — if we live (life is MORE than just eating) unhealthily the system complies; if we live healthily the system also complies.

I would add, though, that we KNOW that drastic changes in the system set it up for failure or a more aggressive fight, often doing more damage than any gradual system. SO, while the overall weight gain overtime is similar for gradual or rapid weight loss approaches, we know that rapid weight loss approaches are more damaging: inflammation rages throughout wreaking multiple effects that do not happen with gradual approaches. There are multiple studies showing that “weekend warriors” (sedentary throughout the week but bust out an exercise routine on the weekend) might have some benefit over purely sedentary people, but purely sedentary people do not damage their joint and or organs, thus weekend warrioring is not a grand idea; lifelong, steady exercise is (see “Lifelong physical activity is associated with promoter hypomethylation of genes involved in metabolism, myogenesis, contractile properties and oxidative stress resistance in aged human skeletal muscle” DOI:10.1038/s41598–018–37895–8).

Again, great article and thanks for the additional insight.
