Fascinating read. Thanks for the additional information and the supposed ‘stories behind the story.’ Having studies the brain (and neuroplasticity) for quite a while now I’m not at all shocked any more about how twisted and convoluted ANY story is… We, quite frankly, suck at sensing reality as it unfolds and are horrendously worse at recalling what we think happened. Yet we believe we’re right and act so. The lifespan of a lie begins, to me, as soon as we sense something (or think we do!) and lasts as long as we do.

Don’t know if you’re familiar with “On Being Certain” by Robert Burton and “Behave” by Robert Sapolsky but I’d recommend the reads. Insightful and witty as hell on the topic.
